Two weeks ago, AJ and I went for a hike in our snowy backyard woods. It was one of those crisp, quiet afternoons where the world feels still, blanketed in white. As we trudged up a steep trail, I quickly realized something: walking in AJ’s footsteps made my journey much easier.. like much easier. The snow was deep, but with every step, he carved a clear path that I could follow. It struck me how much this simple act mirrors our journey in business.
Sometimes, it feels like we’re breaking through untouched snow, unsure of the best route forward, exhausted by every step. But when we have someone ahead of us—someone who’s walked the trail before—it becomes so much easier. Their guidance clears obstacles and gives us a direction to follow, saving us energy and time.
The Power of Learning from Those Ahead of You
This was mirrored in our PRIMED for Growth class last month. We had a group of 11 business owners, all learning from each other, staying engaged, and sharing insights from the paths they’ve walked. We spent time talking about employees and building accountability and were all able to offer advice together. It’s inspiring to see how much growth happens when we lean into the collective wisdom of the group.
When AJ and I started Brex Enterprises back in 2012, we didn’t know where to find mentors. We often found ourselves buried in the snow over the years, trying to figure out the next step on our own. Some days it feels like we're still there.. That’s exactly why we’re so passionate about sharing what we’ve learned. We want to make sure no one else has to struggle blindly through deep snow when there’s a clearer way forward.
